What is the Halberg Mile
This year marks the very first Halberg Mile, a pilot initiative inspired by the Halberg Foundation's Founder - Sir Murray Halberg’s famous mile run. We’ve invited a select group of schools across Aotearoa to join us in shaping this new event, where students will run, walk, or roll one mile together.
But the Halberg Mile is about more than covering 1.6km. It’s about raising awareness and funds to ensure that young Kiwis with physical disabilities are not left on the sidelines of P.E. and sport. Too many children miss out on the joy, confidence, and friendships that come from being included in play — and we’re determined to change that.
By taking part in this pilot year, your school is helping us build something bigger: a movement to make sport inclusive for every child in New Zealand. Funds raised will support the Halberg Foundation’s work to train teachers and sport facilitators, provide resources, and fund adaptive equipment so all students can play, belong, and thrive.
Every step, roll, and stride proves that the Halberg Mile is more than a mile — it’s a step towards fairness, inclusion, and a brighter future for Kiwi kids.
